Mommies & daddies – there’s a great new app for our lil’ ones in town and you have to try it out! I’ve always been a great enthusiast for apps that encourage kids to learn languages and this one is targeted to strengthen their Arabic skills.
The app is designed by NA3M Games, which was founded to fill a void in Middle East gaming industry. Founded in early 2013, NA3M (New Arabic Media and “yes” in Arabic) is based in Amman, Jordan. Their wide range of global products ranges from racing, to education; adventure and competitive games. The new app, Yalla Huroof, allows players to dive into a mystical world filled with new ways to learn Arabic. Players are encouraged to complete objectives by learning new letters and words through drawing letters on the screen. They can also unlock new animals and objects to play with as well as cause earthquakes, make fireworks explode, and feed their animals and watch them play with each other while players move through the island learning Arabic.
Parents, please visit the app store and give Yalla Huroof a try, your lil’ ones love it!
This clip from Jimmy Fallon’s talk show with jerry Seinfeld is absolutely hilarious. On raising kids, he says this:
“The bedtime routine for my kids is like this Royal Coronation Jubilee Centennial of rinsing and plaque and dental appliances and the stuffed animal semi-circle of emotional support. And I’ve gotta read eight different moron books. You know what my bedtime story was when I was a kid? Darkness!”
Watch the clip here:
It has been a hectic year so far but I’m thankful for everything the last months have given me – my baby twins turn ten months today and I can’t believe how fast the time has flown. I look at them now, how mischievous they’re becoming, and I smile as I’m also trying not to pull at my hair and go crazy trying to keep them safe and also give them the space they need to grow.
But, mommies who are wondering how fast it’ll be before their lil’ newborns grow, it does get easier. The long nights of feeding them every three hours, the constant worrying about colic, SIDS, and all the craziness that comes with infants, it will all pass and you’ll also be wondering how fast the time has gone.
I am trying, though, to take shortcuts during the day to make life a little bit less stressful. I have stopped fretting over every spot on my couches. I am giving myself permission to pile up laundry when all I want to do is watch some TV while my lil’ ones sleep. And, I have allowed myself to have food delivered instead of cooking when I have a million other things to think about.
Which, by the way, is getting a lot easier these days – getting food delivered right to your doorstep without waiting for hours and finding it’s also still warm. I’m all for efficiency – portals and apps that make life less difficult are welcome in my life, I wish they’d invent some to help you with kids! Maybe someday! Anyway, backtracking, there’s a great portal and mobile app that’s come online in Amman – called HelloFood. Mommies, you can use it to have food delivered from various restaurants without any hassle. I would highly recommend you try it when you’re pressed for time – lunch and dinner has gotten that much easier giving you more time to spend running around with your lil’ ones at home. Visit the link below and tell all your friends!
So, mommies, yes it does get easier. Whenever you’re down, stressed, tired beyond imagination, just remember that they get older faster than you know and you will miss the days when all they wanted was to be held by you.
I just came across this amazing website, goldieblox. The goal of GoldieBlox, is to get girls building by using their verbal skills to create a story through a construction set. The objective of this is to boost their confidence while giving young inventors the tools they need to build and create amazing things.
ConstRuction toys have always been perceived as tots for boys. By designing a construction toy from the female perspective, Goldieblox aims at changing this way of thinking and inspiring the future generation of female engineers.
I love, love, love this concept and I’m definitely getting one of these for my lil’ one! Mommies of girls – check it out!
My life has been a series of chaotic, yet joyous, moments this last year. Everyday I tell myself that this is the day I will start writing about it. Problem remains that, while I definitely don’t have a minute to myself to put two words together, the events that have taken over my days are just too big to explain. It’s not just about my lil’ one anymore; but my three amazing children. My thoughts are no longer limited to my beautiful girl, but also about my twin baby boys. I’ve gone back to thinking about milk feedings, how to deal with picky eating in babies, diaper changing, and sleep randomness.
Dealing with twins has been a challenge, to say the least. Not only does the difficulty lie in the fact that I now have three children instead of one, but also in having to literally do everything twice. The first few months were a whirlwind of sleepless nights and constant feeding. My babies were born at 33 weeks, and little did I know that premies were so much harder than full term infants. They had no clue how to drink milk from a bottle, and were so tiny that we held them in the palm of our hand. Slowly though, they’ve grown into two babies that have take over my heart and mind. Along with my lil’ one, these babies have become my entire being. As I watch them grow day by day, I am thankful for every minute spent with them.
I am told that things will only get more difficult before they get easier. But, quoting Winnie the Pooh on this who is wiser than I thought possible for a chubby cartoon bear, “rivers know this : there is no hurry, we shall get there someday”.
This Spring we are heading for the SEASIDE, a fashion story featuring a traditional approach to nautical dress with soft, washed styling.
The colour palette is drawn from the Mediterranean, using the depth of the blues from the sky to the sea to bring together peaceful shades of ocean and indigo blue, set off by white, warm scarlet and coral pink.
For girls, the look is nautical but with a soft sparkle, using sequins to decorate anchors, big bows and rope detail. Contrast stripes, pockets and piping finished with a rope style belt show marine style in a contemporary spirit. Looking at the sea with its simple wonders and little treasures, graphics and typography feature fish, anchors, seashells and fresh watercolour prints.
Key shapes of the look are drop hem dresses, breton tees, chinos and the key staple stripe blazer worn with twist yarn cable knits to keep the sea breeze at bay. The fashionistas will be seen wearing the soft slub and nep texture jerseys with the ticking stripe woven twill skirt with scallop edges and embroidery detail, giving a truly nautical vibe with a fun modern twist for the seaside.
For boys, it’s ocean inspired graphics of anchors, fish and boat prints with “little captain” typography and distressed effect denims. Cuffs are turned up on trousers, shorts and shirts for modern styling on a traditional story. Much like the girls, boyswear features ticking stripes on woven twill trousers and shorts. Ensuring the right mix of cool but casual for seaside play, cable knits have crew necks, shorts are embroidered with smart small anchors and gingham shirts feature mini and maxi checks and contrast pockets.
All aboard for Spring at Mothercare!
As temperatures drop it’s time to prepare for colder weather!
Injecting some boldness into the season, the new Mothercare range combines intricate details such as sequins, lace and embellishments along with studs, jacquard and velvet to create an array of wild and vibrant pieces to layer and keep warm.
Dark florals with flashes of neon stripes as well as mesh tulle with foil finishes are some of the key details of this modern winter collection. Classic cuts adorned with fashion forward elements such as eye masks and jewel prints, rhinestones and gold ribbons are sure to add life and adventure to any cold winter’s night.
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything on my blog – for that I sincerely apologise to my faithful readers and promise to get the blog up and running very, very soon. It’s been a roller coaster ride this past year; I’ve had twin boys and I’m learning to juggle babies and a toddler – a task, no a feat, that’s not been easy to manage, which may be understating it. I will be posting more about this in the upcoming weeks and I will be reaching out to all mommies out there for help and advice!
For now, I have given my word to write about a new website that will be running in the very near future. It’s a website I know all parents out there would love to try out and will definitely appreciate. It caters to storing ‘digital memories’ of our kids and then digitally delivering them at a predetermined date in the future, like a digital time capsule. Mommies you’re encouraged to check it out and get complimentary memberships if you do.
In case you’re wondering, the website – called KairosLife comes from the ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment (the supreme moment). A moment of indeterminate time in which something special happens.
So please, visit KairosLife and tell us what you think!
